NAGPUR – Zimbabwe thrashed Canada by huge margin of 175 in Group ‘A’ match here on Monday (Feb. 28).
Zimbabwe totally dominated the relatively inexperienced opposition in both of the innings; first with the bat piling up might total of 298 and then with the ball getting opposition out for paltry 123.
Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers perished very early but Tatenda Taibu and Craig Ervine played handsomely and helped piling up 298 for their side. Taibu fell just two short of his century and named man of the match while Ervine made 85.
Later on Ray Price and Graeme Cremer picked up three wickets each to leave opponents struggling to have any significant partnership. Canada all out for just 123 runs with Zubin Surkari (26) and Ruvindu Gunasekera (24) showing some resistance.
All seven teams of Group ‘A’ have played two matches each and Pakistan is leading the table followed by Australia, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Zimbabwe climbed up to fifth position in Group ‘A’ with this big victory while Canada slipped to sixth, just ahead of Kenya at number seven.
