KARACHI – In the absence of Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir, recently banned by ICC on spot-fixing charges, Pakistan has scarce resources in pace bowling. On Wednesday, Pakistan’s depleted bowling attack suffered another shock when Sohail Tanveer was ruled out of the World Cup due to his knee injury.
According to PCB statement, the recovery of the bowler is satisfactory but it still needs to be improved a lot before stepping into international level with full force. Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam said there could be no place for any half-fit players.
Another left-arm, 21-year-old Junaid Khan will get chance to be a part of Pakistan outfit in the coming mega event. Interesting to share that Junaid Khan started his cricketing career playing for under-19 in the company of Muhammad Aamir (banned for spot-fixing). But this is not his recommendation for replacing Sohail Tanveer, rather Khan's call-up to the senior squad is based on his recent performance on domestic level with an impressive haul of 167 wickets in just 35 first-class matches.
Pakistan is in Group A for the World Cup and will open their campaign against Kenya Hambantota, Sri Lanka, on February 23.
