ICC World Twenty20 Live

Schedule for Sept 18, 2012

ICC World T20: Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe -- Match Preview:

After awarm up round, the ICC World T20 finally begins today as the hosts Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe, what looks to be an easy target for starting the campaign with a winning node. The home side are slightly favourites with some outlets to win Group C and a good start to the tournament will certainly help to shorten those odds.

ICC World T20: Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe -- Online Live Streaming
Sri Lanka have an average performance during their warm up matches; as they lost against India but managed to register a win against the West Indies. Zimbabwe have had a tough time in their warm up matches getting thrashed by Ireland and losing narrowly to Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka, 1996 world champion in ODI format, is definitely a good team and they become more powerful when playing at home so for Zimbabwe it will not be a easy game but every cricket lover knows that upsets are very common in T20 format of Cricket.

Until now these two teams have faced each other 2 times in T20 and both time Sri Lanka was the winner. Let's see whether these stats will change or not after today's match.

World Cup (March 14): Latest Team Position in Group A After Pakistan Beat Zimbabwe

KANDY – Pakistan overcome the Pallekele fear beating Zimbabwe by 7 wickets in a rain-effected match.

Pakistan had to chase 162 in 38 overs, an adjusted target according to Duckworth-Lewis method due to unexpected stoppages caused by heavy rain.
Asad Shafiq, replacing injured Umar Akmal, played beautifully and calmly for his masterly crafted unbeaten 78 to led Pakistan to an easy victory with almost 4 overs to spare. Muhammad Hafeez also played a handy knock of 49 runs.

Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistani pacers extracted help from early moisture from the pitch and never let Zimbabwe batsmen to get in control. Umar Gul, especially, bowled brilliantly and picked up three important wickets in quite quick succession.

Rain stopped the match twice and ultimately umpires had to end Zimbabwe innings when rain stopped the macth second time; Zimbabwe was playing at 151/7 in 39.4 overs. The target was adjusted accordingly and Pakistan managed to get it quite easily in the end.

With this victory Pakistan not only climbed up to second spot, with four wins in five matches having 8 points, in the Group ‘A’ but they are almost through to the quarterfinals. Pakistan will face defending champion Australia in their next match on March 19.

Pakistan v Zimbabwe (Group A) - Zimbabwe batting first after winning the toss (Final Squads)

KANDY – Zimbabwe has won the toss and chose to bat first here at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.

Pakistan has not very good memories associated with the venue ‘Pallekele’, where they lost their first match of the World Cup 2011 against New Zealand by a huge margin of 110 runs on last Tuesday (March 8).

Today they are set to play their 5th match of the World Cup against Zimbabwe on the same venue. Before today’s match both teams have been face to face 40 times and Pakistan has emerged victorious in 36 while one match has been tied and one fetched no result.

Pakistan can make their way to quarterfinals with today’s victory as after that they will have to meet only defending champion Australia in their last group match on March 19 at Colombo.

Both teams have announced their final squads as follows:

Zimbabwe (Playing XI): Brendan Taylor, Regis Chakabva, Tatenda Taibu(w), Vusi Sibanda, Craig Ervine, Elton Chigumbura(c), Gregory Lamb, Prosper Utseya, Graeme Cremer, Shingirai Masakadza, Ray Price

Pakistan (Playing XI): Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Kamran Akmal(w), Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Shahid Afridi(c), Abdul Razzaq, Abdur Rehman, Wahab Riaz, Umar Gul

Pakistan v Zimbabwe (Group A) - Weather Report, Pitch Report and Live Score Updates

KANDY - Pakistan has not very good memories associated with the venue ‘Pallekele’, where they lost their first match of the World Cup 2011 against New Zealand by a huge margin of 110 runs on last Tuesday (March 8).

Weather report: There was a light shower in the morning and heavy showers are expected later in the day. The ground was covered on half an hour ago; but the covers have been removed now. The sun is out. Hopefully, it stays the same way.

Pitch report: The wicket is hard, the grass is not even. There are patchy sections of grass, there will be some uneven bounce and sideways movement. The overcast conditions may force the captain to bowl first.

World Cup (March 14) - Match Preview: Pakistan v Zimbabwe (Live Score Updates)

KANDY – Pakistan has not very good memories associated with the venue ‘Pallekele’, where they lost their first match of the World Cup against New Zealand by a huge margin of 110 runs on last Tuesday (March 8).

But they have to play again on the same venue against Zimbabwe tomorrow. Zimbabwe has won only once in this world cup and that was against Canada; while Pakistan has lost their only match against New Zealand out of four they have played. But the attribute of ‘unpredictable’ associated with Pakistan is the biggest threat for themselves as well as for their opponents.

The match is very important for Pakistan to make their way to quarterfinals; but their shattered confidence can lead them to an unprecedented pressure which can turn tables for them.

The match will start on 14:00 PST (14:30 IST, 09:00 GMT) and will be officiated by Nigel Llong and Tony Hill, Marais Erasmus (third),  Ranmore Martinesz (fourth), Chris Broad (referee).

Both team s will announce their final eleven just before the start of the match from the following squads:

Zimbabwe (From): Brendan Taylor, Charles Coventry, Tatenda Taibu(w), Craig Ervine, Elton Chigumbura(c), Sean Williams, Regis Chakabva, Prosper Utseya, Graeme Cremer, Ray Price, Chris Mpofu, Sean Ervine, Gregory Lamb, Shingirai Masakadza, Tinashe Panyangara, Terry Duffin

Pakistan (From): Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Kamran Akmal(w), Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi(c), Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul, Abdur Rehman, Shoaib Akhtar, Wahab Riaz, Asad Shafiq, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan

March 10: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe - Today's Match Summary and Team Positions in Group A

KANDY – Zimbabwe after showing a brave fight in the start fell short of 139 runs to huge target of 328 set by Sri Lanka. Brendon Taylor and Regis Chakabva provided a solid start 116 runs; but the middle-order and lower order couldn’t able to take the same spirit.

Actually the day totally belongs to Tillakaratne Dilshan. First he dominated the Zimbabwe by the bat and then with the ball claiming 4 wickets. Muttiah Muralitharan also picked up three wickets.

Earlier, Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan set a new first wicket partnership record in the world cups. This is first ever first wicket double century partnership for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka lost their first wicket on 282 and then Chris Mpofu created a little panic among the Lankan Tigers claiming 4 successive wickets. Sri Lanka managed to take the score to 327 which once seemed to touch 400-mark.

Tillakaratne Dilshan was named man of the match for his brilliant all-round performance and helped Sri Lanka to stand on the top of the table with 7 points followed by New Zealand and Pakistan respectively.
