BANGALORE, India — Police carrying sticks have attacked hundreds of cricket fans who had been queuing up to purchase tickets for Sunday’s match between India and England at Bangalore.
Reportedly, thousands of cricket fans had stayed all night outside the 50,000-seat stadium looking to buy a ticket on Thursday for the Group B game on Sunday.
According to reports from Indian media; the public allocation of 7,000 tickets had all gone by late morning and the masses of fans uttered their annoyance by pouring out at police. The police countered by trying to restrain crowds with their bamboo sticks.
Javagal Srinath, the secretary of the Karnataka Cricket Association, is in-charge for the Bangalore match. He says the biggest challenge is meeting the expectations of the people, noting "that is not possible."
