India-Pakistan Mohali Semi-final - - Betting Turnover Expected to Surpass $1.1 Billion (Indian Rupees 50 billion)

MOHALI – Bookies are in action far before even the start if ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, as it was reported here last month; but as the semi-final clash of India and Pakistan is getting closer the activities of these bookies are even more noticeable.

As per claims by an Indian news channel; Pradeep Chawla, one of the most notorious bookies from New Delhi, was seen in the dressing room of Indian team during their Group B match against Netherlands. The scenario clearly shows that all efforts of ICC to hold a controversy-free world cup are going in vain. These bookies and match fixers are too influential to keep them away from the cricket fields.

With the passage of time, not only cricket but fixing also has evolved on scientific lines and now players don’t have to sell out the result of a match, they can make even more money by doing spot or fancy fixing.

Mumbai and Dubai have surfaced as the two main centres of betting industry during the World Cup and billions of dollars have already been spent in the earlier matches of the tournament.

Reportedly, for Mohali clash, the total betting turnover is likely to surpass Indian rupees 50 billion or $1.1 billion, highest-ever for any international cricket match.
