COLOMBO – Canada couldn’t make it and just scrambled on the way to another world cup upset today when they got out on 138 chasing a small target of 185. It was Shahid Afridi all around making things happen for Pakistan with the ball. Afridi took five wickets yet again for just 23 runs in his 10 overs. He is the leading wicket taker with his 14 wickets; well ahead of his competitors in the mega event.
Only three Canadian batsmen able to touch the double figure score with Jimmy Hansra leading run scorer with his 43. Zubin Surkari also made his appearance significant with small innings of 27.
Earlier, arrogant Pakistan got out miserably for just 184 on the board against Canada in the 17th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup. A poor start multiplied by a poor shot selection in the middle left Pakistan almost nowhere; but very near to another world cup upset. Umar Akmal and Misbah-ul-Haq played good innings in low-score match with their 48 and 37 respectively.
Canadian bowlers exhibited an impressive show with the ball equally backed by their fielders. They are feeling very close to handle another upset of the mega event. Harvir Baidwan picked up three wickets while Jimmy Hansra took 2 wickets for Canada.
Shahid Afridi named as man of the match for his match winning bowling spirit and now Pakistan is leading the Group A with 6 points after registering three wins in three matches.
