MOHALI, Mar 26 – Amidst reports suggesting the possibility of terror attack during Cricket World Cup, also confirmed by Interpol, India has vowed ‘state-level’ security to the Pakistan cricket team touring India for the remaining World Cup matches and already reached Mohali for the March 30 Semi-final clash against India.
After hosting two not-so-interesting matches, between South Africa & Netherlands and West Indies & Ireland on March 3 and 11 respectively, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium, Mohali, is all set to host what it calls the “biggest-ever” tie between the two arch-rival claimants for the Cup — India and Pakistan — during the second semi-final on March 30.
Keeping in view the importance of the matter; Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday offered Central forces, if required, for the Mohali tie. On the other hand, Punjab Police have planned to position at least 1,700 policemen under a three-tier security plan inside and outside the stadium to guard the cricketers and the jam-packed stadium. This will be apart from the hundreds of private security guards to be roped in by Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at the gates and for inside security.
