DHAKA - Rampant Pakistan will take on West Indies tomorrow (Wednesday/March 23) in the first of the four quarterfinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. Pakistan definite hopes to continue their winning run in the tournament against patchy West Indies who suffered two recent rather close defeats against England and India.

The immensely talented but equally unpredictable, Pakistan team has been the surprise of the tournament with five wins in six matches in the group stage and thus placed on the top of the Group ‘A’.

On the other hand, West Indies enigmatically lost their last two games against England and India from dominant positions to finish fourth in Group B with three wins, the same as Bangladesh, but with a superior run-rate.

Afridi’s men-in-green got better and better as the tournament went on and turned the best when they ended the marathon victory streak of three-time defending world champions Australia in their last group match at Colombo this weekend.

The morale-booster victory against Australia will probably do wonders for Pakistan in the rest of the tournament and they can emerge as the ‘Champions’ just from nowhere like they had done in 1992 world cup in the leadership of legendary Imran Khan.

Keeping in view the strengths and weaknesses of both sides it can be conclude positively that the big game ahead will surely be a show of bowlers. None of the batsmen from both team got place in the list of top five high-scoring batsmen in the World Cup. But interestingly bowlers from both teams have their places in the list of top five wicket-taking bowlers with Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi on the top spot with 17 wickets while West Indies pacer Kemar Roach is on the fifth spot with his 13 wickets in five matches he played.

The match will start on 13:30 PST (14:30 local time, 14:00 IST, 08:30 GMT). As ICC has already announced the match officials, therefore the will be officiated by Bowden and Steve Davis will be on-field umpires while Daryl Harper and Bruce Oxenford will supervise the match as third and fourth umpire respectively.

It is buzzing around that the Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akthar, who has already announced his retirement from international cricket after the world cup, will not be part of the Pakistan outfit. But both teams will announce their final eleven just before the match from the following squads:
