COLOMBO – Sri Lanka set a semi-final clash against New Zealand beating England by huge margin of 10 wickets at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Sri Lankan openers, Tillakaratne Dilshan (108*) and Upul Tharanga (102*), smashed blazing unbeaten centuries to lead Sri Lanka to an easy victory.
England never looked like in the match from the beginning; while Sri Lanka seemed on the top in both of the innings, first with the ball and then with the bat.
Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bat first; but the fall of early wickets left them struggling all the way. Jonathan Trott (86) continued to show his excellent form with the bat and helped England to reach a respectable total. He involved with good little partnerships with Ravi Bopara (31) and Eoin Morgan (50).
Sri Lankan bowlers completely dominated England batsmen and wickets with regular intervals never let England batsmen settle. Muttiah Muralitharan claimed two wickets, including important wicket of Jonathan Trott; while Lasith Malinga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Angelo Mathews and Ajantha Mendis picked uo one wicket each.
Tillakaratne Dilshan was named man of the match for his superb century. Sri Lanka will now meet New Zealand in the first semi-final on Tuesday (March 29) on the same venue.
