England v South Africa (Group B - England Fought Back to Clinch The Low-Scoring Thriller by 6 Runs

CHENNAI - - What a match! An absolute thriller it was! England fought back powerfully to clinch the low-scoring thriller against powerful South Africa. With this 6 runs victory, they didn’t not only add the two points to their credit but also revitalized their quarter-final hopes.

England bowlers came back strongly after an impressive opening stand of 63 runs provided by Hashim Amla (42) and Graeme Smith (22). The real collapse was seen at 124 runs on the board when South Africa lost three wickets including AB de Villiers (25), Faf du Plessis (17) and Jean-Paul Duminy (0).

After the fall of top-order South African middle order failed to respond as effectively as required by the situation. I must quote here the words of Sohail Tanveer, left-arm Pakistani pacer who’s out of the world cup due to knee injury.
Tanveer said before the start of the match on Pakistan’s sport channel ‘Geo Super’, “the only weak link of South Africa is their middle-order who are just out of practice due to an extraordinary form of top-order players and if match goes to the middle-order then England would have a certain chance provided that England bowlers don’t do the same as they did against Ireland.”

I wonder how accurate his analysis was! England bowled their heart out to snatch this victory. Stuart Broad picked up four wickets including 2 in the last over. James Anderson claimed two while Swann, Yardy and Pietersen took one wicket each.
