World Cup (Group B): Latest Team Positions After Bangladesh Stunned England

CHITTAGONG - Bangali Tigers stunned England by two wickets on Friday to keep alive their World Cup quarter-final hopes and set-up a nail-biting race to qualify from Group B.

On a rollercoaster night Bangladesh, chasing just 226 to win, were cruising at 155-3 when opener Imrul Kayes, on 60, attempted a second run off Paul Collingwood but was beaten by a flat, sharp throw from Ajmal Shahzad.

That stimulated a crumple to 169-8 before brave rescue expedition started by tail-enders Shafiul Islam (24) and Mohammad Mahmudullah (21) put on 58 for the ninth wicket to win with six balls to spare.

If England had won, they would have gone into the last eight along with group leaders India.

India can make sure of their place with victory over South Africa in Bangalore on Saturday while England have a tough clash with West Indies in Chennai next Thursday that could decide their fate. The match will be equally important for West Indies, positioned on number 2 currently, as their loss can ruin their quarterfinal hopes. If West Indies loses to England then they would have do/die case in the last of the group round on March 20 against India.

While Bangladesh scheduled to face Netherlands and South Africa on March 14 March 19.

Therefore, it is clear that in this group of death only India has confirmed their seat in quarterfinals while the remaining three teams are still unsure.

Bangladesh climbed up from number six to number five after the recent stunning victory against England exchanging the position with Ireland. West Indies already took the second position after Ireland win.
