Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Ijaz Butt, had been in New Zealand since few days to finalize the captaincy issue for the World Cup squad.
Now the reports are coming out that after the long sittings and discussions with the touring team management in New Zealand and Chief Operating Officer in Lahore; it is decided finally that all-rounder Shahid Afridi will lead the world cup squad which is scheduled to be started on February 19 in Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh.
The reliable source revealed that the decision was taken in the wake of support for Afridi from the senior players of the touring team like Shoaib Akhtar, Abdur Razzaq and Umar Gul.
The source further informed that Ijaz Butt is expected to announce officially the World Cup captain this week after some more negotiations in New Zealand.
