Chennai, India (Thu, Apr 05) – Mumbai Indians (MI) registered an easy victory against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2012 opener yesterday night here at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Mumbai won the toss and invited Chennai to bat first. Supported by a superb bowling performance, the Mumbai Indians (MI) knocked out the hosts at 112 with one ball to spare and then took the charge to get the target of 113 with more than 3 overs to spare.
Suresh Raina was the top scorer for CSK with 36 off 26 balls and Dwayne Bravo contributed with 19 off 19. No other batsman could play an innings big enough to take Chennai to formidable target. Lasith Malinga, Pragyan Ojha andKieron Pollard grabbed 2 wickets each while James Franklin picked up one wicket for Mumbai.
In reply Mumbai got a flying start courtesy to little master Sachin Tendulkar (16) and Richard Levi (50) and got the target well inside the allotted overs to get better their NRR, which could play a big role on the finishing stages of the tournament.
