CHENNAI, India (Wed, Apr 04) – The fifth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be kicked off today (Wednesday, April 04) and extravagant opening ceremony took place yesterday at YMCA ground.

The tournament opener will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at 8:00 pm (local time, IST) at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

The tournament will last for 54 days until the Final will be played on May 27. Total of 76 matches will be played, including Final and semifinals. Total nine teams are going to fight for the title for this year.

Indian Premier League started in 2008 and Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural edition beating Chenai Super Kings in the final. In the second edition of IPL Deccan Chargers emerge as the winners in 2009; while Chennai Super Kings established their supremacy in the last two editions in 2010 and 2011 beating Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively.
