Gambhir and Dhoni Led India to Victory - - Match Summary: India Become World Champions After 28 Years

MUMBAI – India emerges as the new ‘World Champions’ beating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets margin.

Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni led India to the title after long period of 28 years; especially skipper MS Dhoni played an unforgettable innings of 91 runs off just 79 balls.

India lost their first wicket without a single score on the board when Lasith Malinga trapped inform Virender Sehwag (0) plum in front of stumps and the second strike was even more important when little master Sachin Tendulkar (18) fell on total score of 31 runs. It was the only point-low for India; as after that Gautam Gambhir (97) played an anchor role first with Virat Kohli (35) and then with his captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Unfortunately he couldn’t overcome fear of 90’s and fell three short of his hundred.

Yuvraj Singh (21) came to support captain and took India to one of the most impressive finish; when MS Dhoni struck a big six to grab the victory in style.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Although Upul Tharanga (2) fell early in the innings but captain Kumar Sangakkara (48) played another good enough innings of 48 runs partnering with first with Tillakaratne Dilshan (33) and then with Mahela Jayawardene.

The real pull back came from Jayawadene who responded quite well in pressure game after failing in most of the world cup matches. He scored unbeaten 103 runs to lead Sri Lanka to an apparently more than enough total of 274 runs. Nuwan Kulasekara (32) and Thissara Perera (22) played good fiery knocks in the end to support their team to find a good total on the board.

As closing ceremony is still underway at the time of writing these few line and man of the match is still not mentioned; but if I would have to name man of the match, it would not be none other than “Mahendra Singh Dhoni”.
