DUBAI, UAE (Jan. 19) – Last wicket of Pakistan just fell at 338 when Adnan Akmal got stump out off the sharply spinning delivery from Graeme Swann. Akmal played a brilliant knock of 61 that helps Pakistan to get a substantial first innings lead of 146 runs.
Pakistan resumed their first innings today at 288/7 on the third day of the first Test being played at Dubai Sports Complex, Dubai.
Pakistan were 96 runs ahead of England’s first innings score of 192. England bowlers have a pretty decent job to curtail Pakistan under 300-mark on the day two. They never allowed playing Pakistani batsmen with freedom of mind and the willow in their hands.
The pick of the bowlers was definitely Stuart Broad who started things happen for England when he cleaned Taufeeq Umar off-stumps with a gem of beautiful ball. Then it was Broad who picked up the second wicket of Azhar Ali. Broad finishes with three wickets in Pakistan’s first innings.
Graeme Swann claimed four wicket costing 107 runs while James Anderson picked up two wickets and one very lucky wicket of Younis Khan was shared by Jonathan Trott.
The last two wickets of Misbah-ul-Haq and Abdur Rehman at very last moments of the day were among the vital wickets that lifted the spirit of England and will certainly help wrap the Pakistani tail as soon as possible on the start of day three.
Although Pakistani openers Muhammad Hafeez (88) and Taufeeq Umar (58) gave a strong start of 114 runs; but middle-order batsmen failed to capitalize things off, other than skipper Misbah-ul-Haq who scored 52 before falling in the second last over of the day. The terrific innings by Adnan Akmal was really frustrating for England.
England bowlers were hoping to pick up the remaining three wickets in a quick time which didn’t happen in real; but the real test for them is to face Saeed Ajmal’s Doosra and Teesra in the second innings.
Let’s see how they will tackle the World No. 1 off spinner ..??
