ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - - Hosts and Venues


The 43-days mega event of the cricketing world in approaching very fast, scheduled to be kickedoff on February 19, 2011; but the opening ceremony will be organized on 18th February in Bangladesh. The event will last up to April 2nd, 2011 with a final at Mumbai, India.

Initially ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 was planned to be co-hosted by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; but after a terrorist attack on Sri Lankan team in March 2009 ICC decided to deprive Pakistan off the co-hosting of event. The ICC's decision has left India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as the three sub-continental co-hosts of the mega event.

World cup secretariat was also shifted from Lahore to Mumbai after ICC decision and the 14 matches originally scheduled to take place in Pakistan have been redistributed with eight going to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh. The quarter-finals will be shared India and Sri Lanka one each while Bangladesh hosting two.

According to the finalized schedule, now India will host the final and second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 while Sri Lanka will get chance to stage the first semi-final. Out of total 49 matches; India will host 29 while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will host 12 and 8 matches on three two venues respectively. Bangladesh will also stage the opening ceremony on February 18, 2011.
