It could have been Shakib Al Hasan’s day. But thankfully for Pakistan, at the end of the day it was Imran Nazir who hogged the limelight. The big-hitting opener could have fallen for just 1 but instead he smashed a 36-ball 72 to shield Pakistan from any unpleasant surprises.

In the pursuit, he also hit the fastest 50 of the ongoing ICC World Twenty20 in just 25 balls. He provided a 124-run opening stand with his skipper Muhammad Hafeez (45 off 47).

Imran Nazir fully encashed the lucky escape, when he was dropped on just one. Abul Hasan dropped a real sitter at mid-on off Shafiul Islam in just second over of Pakistan Innings.

Imran Nazir was named man-of the-match for his fiery and winning knock.

Situation Analysis: How Bangladesh can Qualify for Super Eight (Super8/S8) Stage?

Its about just more than nine hours before starting the match between Bangladesh and Pakistan - the last encounter of the initial stage of 2012 ICC World Twenty20 and undoubtedly the most important match of Group D as the result will decide that which team will go through to the Super Eight (Super8/S8) stage.

Can Bangladesh Qualify for Super Eight (Super8/S8) Stage?

Both teams have their own chances but Bangla tigers have to play exceptional game and if they want to qualify for Super8 then they have to produce some extraordinary performances in bowling or batting (or in both departments).

According to present scenario; in first two matches of the Group D, Bangladesh lost heavily to Kiwis and running very low with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -2.95, while Pakistan managed to win narrowly from New Zealand and has a positive NRR i.e.  +0.65.

The situation above clearly tells us that Bangladesh needs to produce a performance that will cover the difference between these NRR's of btoth teams. In simple words they not simply need to win the match but they have to create a minimum  NRR difference of 1.81 in this specific match.

Let's have a situation analysis below to understand it comprehensively:

  1. Pakistan Batting First: Pakistan bat first and scores exactly 150 (7.5 runs/over) then Bangladesh would have to get the target in 16 overs to throw Pakistan out of the tournament.
  2. Pakistan Batting First: Pakistan bat first and scores exactly 120 (6.0 runs/over) then Bangladesh would have to get the target in 15.2 overs to qualify for the Super8 stage.
In above situations Bangladesh have to produce exceptional performance in both batting and bowling departments; first to get Pakistan's strong batting lineup out on as low as 120/150 and then they would have someone in their batting lineup who will be capable enough to score at a high pace against Pakistan's strong bowling attack.

  1. Bangladesh Batting First: Bangladesh bat first and scores exactly 150 (7.5 runs/over) then Bangladesh would have to get the opposition out for 113 or below to throw them out of the tournament.
  2. Bangladesh Batting First: Bangladesh bat first and scores exactly 180 (9.0 runs/over) then Bangladesh would have to get the opposition out for 143 or below to qualify for the Super8 stage.
Once again; in these situations Bangladesh have to produce exceptional performance in both batting and bowling departments; first to get a high total of 150/180 and then curtail Pakistan well below targets.

It seems an uphill task for Bangla tigers but no one can say its "IMPOSSIBLE" as cricket is 'by chance' and T20 cricket is even more 'by chance'. One extraordinary performance in batting or bowling can get Bangladesh through to the next stage.

Let's see, fingers crossed.

ICC World Twenty20 -- Super Eight Stage Final Group Formation

The seedings used are those allocated at the start of the tournament and are not affected by group stage results, with the exception of if a non-seeded team knocks out a seeded team, the non-seeded team inherits the seed of the knocked-out team.

According to latest updates West Indies have also qualified for the Super 8 stage without winning a single match in the initial stage - same like England in ICC World T20 in 2010.

As per the latest team positions the two groups of Super Eight stage are as follows:

Super Eight (Group 1):  This group will be the group of death as it will, more probably, consists of the all top four teams qualified from initial stage i.e. Australia, India, South Africa and fourth team will be finalized after last match of the initial stage between Pakistan and Bangladesh

Super Eight (Group 2): Sri Lanka, New Zealand, England and West Indies

Teams in each group will play one match each with the group mates to qualify for the knoc-out round and top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals.

ICC World T20: Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe -- Match Preview:

After awarm up round, the ICC World T20 finally begins today as the hosts Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe, what looks to be an easy target for starting the campaign with a winning node. The home side are slightly favourites with some outlets to win Group C and a good start to the tournament will certainly help to shorten those odds.

ICC World T20: Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe -- Online Live Streaming
Sri Lanka have an average performance during their warm up matches; as they lost against India but managed to register a win against the West Indies. Zimbabwe have had a tough time in their warm up matches getting thrashed by Ireland and losing narrowly to Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka, 1996 world champion in ODI format, is definitely a good team and they become more powerful when playing at home so for Zimbabwe it will not be a easy game but every cricket lover knows that upsets are very common in T20 format of Cricket.

Until now these two teams have faced each other 2 times in T20 and both time Sri Lanka was the winner. Let's see whether these stats will change or not after today's match.
