IPL 2012 (Final): Actual contest will be between Chennai's X-factor and Kolkata's determination

CHENNAI, India (Sun, May 27) – The grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2012) is just hours away now and speculations, match previews and experts’ analysis are pouring on.

IPL 2012 (Final): Actual contest will be between Chennai's X-factor and Kolkata's determination
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) qualified in third consecutive IPL final beating Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) in ‘eliminator’ and second qualifier respectively. They produced extraordinary performances in both of these matches which hugely contrast their lethargic approach on the league stages, which led them on the brink of early elimination but Bangalore’s upset defeat in the hands of Deccan Chargers (DC) proved a lifeline for Chennai.

Chennai didn’t look back since then and bashed Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils to make their way into the grand finale and proved that they have the “X-Factor” for the big occasion.

History and the recent momentum of the Chennai Super Kings definitely points toward CSK’s victory that would not only seal a hat-trick of triumphs, but would also end a fairytale script – one that saw them in a precarious position, banking on other results for qualification into the play-offs. On the field of play, they will face the inspired Kolkata Knight Riders, who would do everything to stand between the home side and history.

Watch Online Live Streaming and Highlights - IPL 2012 Final (Preview): Chennai (CSK) vs Kolkata (KKR)

CHENNAI, India (Sat, May 26) – Murali Vijay was the star of the night when defending IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crushed out Delhi Daredevils (DD), number one on the points table in IPL 2012, in the second qualifier to qualify for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2012) Final for the third time in a row.

Watch Online Live Streaming and Highlights - IPL 2012 Final (Preview): Chennai (CSK) vs Kolkata (KKR)

Vijay became the only Indian batsman to score two IPL centuries when he hammered 113 runs against Delhi.

He had also a century in his credit in the third edition of IPL in 2010.

After guiding his team to a crushing 86-run victory over Delhi with his splendid toon, Vijay said they are geared up to defend their IPL title against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday (May 27).

Delhi bowlers looked off-colored in front of Chennai batsmen as they went ballistic; Vijay hit 113 runs in 58 balls hitting 15 fours and 4 sixes. Dhoni and Bravo provided late showers hitting 23 (10) and 33 (12) respectively. CSK piled up massive total of 222/5 in 20 overs.

Delhi never recovered after losing top three wickets in quick succession and provided an easy victory in an important match.

On super Sunday Tomorrow (May 27) all roads will lead to the M.A. Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. For the very first time in IPL history; Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had qualified for the IPL final after beating Delhi in first qualifier. From a comparatively poor start to winning seven consecutive games to a late-end hiccup, it has been quite a campaign for the Gautam Gambhir-led franchise owned by Bollywood star Sharukh Khan who himself has been in spotlight for one and another reason during this IPL season.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will definitely rely upon their lethal spin attack led by the second top wicket-taker in this season, Sunil Narine, is tailor-made for this track. The skipper Gautam Gambhir will also have to play his role with the bat and will certainly need a support from veteran Jacques Kallis in both batting and bowling field. Shakib Al Hassan will also be a key if KKR wants to be champion in this season.

On the other hand, the two-time reigning champions the Chennai Super Kings always reserve their best when it really matters the most. They buried their jaded display in the league stages and fired in unity in the knock-out stage. Chennai was a team that seemed to be crashing out of the tournament at every stage, but they hung on fighting. This has been the hallmark of CSK right from the inception of the league.

They have probably one of the best combinations in terms of bowling as well as batting with Murali Vijay, Mike Hussey, Suresh Raina, skipper MS Dhoni, Ben Hilfenhaus and Albie Morkel on their disposal.

Above all they have shown their class and commitment in the final stages that promises to mark the historical third consecutive victory as IPL Champs; but Kolkata will not retreat after getting into final after a long battle all the way from IPL's first season.

All in all .... the cricket fans definitely have an exciting and thrilling final in their hands on tomorrow (Sunday, May 27).

IPL 2012: Play-off Schedule -- Qualifier 1 (Delhi vs Kolkata) on May 22

The results of both matches will not affect the two leading teams i.e. Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR); but it’s a real ‘do or die’ situation for RCB. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians (MI) will also try to win the final league match to enter in the play-off stage with a winning note; but even if they lose they will though to play-offs.

IPL 2012 (Pre Play-off Phase) -- Latest Points Table -- Punjab and Rajasthan fancy their chances for play-offs

CHANDIGARH, India (Mon, May 14) – Two matches were played the other night in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2012) on the 40th day of the tournament.

IPL 2012 (Pre Play-off Phase) -- Latest Points Table -- Punjab and Rajasthan fancy their chances for play-offs

The second match of the day was played between Deccan Chargers (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), which proved to be a real thriller in contrast to first match of the day.

Chasing a big target of 191, Punjab did not get off to a great start. They lost the openers cheaply and the required run rate kept on mounting. However, Azhar Mahmood (31 off 20) and David Hussey (65 off 35) steadied their innings. Gurkeerat Singh (29* off 12) chipped in with an amazing little cameo towards the end to get past the target on the very last ball of the match. The Deccan bowlers, except Dale Steyn, lost their nerve and bowled too many full tosses towards the end.

David Hussey was named man of the match for his spirited batting and quality leadership.

In the first match, Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Pune Warriors India (PWI) in a rather one-sided match, missing the thrill and excitement normally associated with T20 matches. Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat first and piled up 170/4 in allotted 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane (61 off 47) and Shane Watson (58 off 31) were the main contributors for Rajasthan Royals.

In reply, Pune just managed 125/9 in their 20 overs batting. Top order batsmen fell cheaply against the superb bowling by Rajasthan bowlers. Pune’s top four batsmen fell prey to young Ajit Chandila, including a hat-trick. He was also named man of the match for his extraordinary bowling spell. Shane Watson and Johan Botha also claimed 2 wickets each for Rajasthan.

Punjab is on the 7th spot on points table right now, but they have still kept their chances of qualifying for the play-offs. Rajasthan Royals is spotted on 6th and fancy their chances for play-offs. Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai are still holding top three positions respectively.

Detailed and updated points table and respective team positions are given above.
