Bangalore, India (Thu, May 03) – Pakistan’s ex-Test
cricketer and all-rounder Azhar Mehmood sparkled as Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)
managed to grab the thriller against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
yesterday night here at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, India.
IPL 2012 (May 3): KXIP in top four -- Updated Points Table/Team Standings |
Punjab won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first.
Chris Gayle (71 off 42) was destructive in the beginning; but once he was
trapped by in-form Azhar Mehmood in 16th over at 126/2, RCB lost
their way and managed to put just 158 on board. Virat Kohli (45 off 42) also
played a handy knock. Azhar Mehmood grabbed 3/20 in his four overs to claim
man-of-the-match award.
Punjab did well in the first half of their batting, but
quick wickets in the end put them in a bit of trouble as they lost 4 wickets
for reaching 154 from 146. The tail-enders held their nerves to get through on the
second last ball of the last over.
KXIP has come in the upper half in the points table with
this all important victory and standing on fourth spot. Delhi Daredevils are still
leading the table, followed by KKR and Mumbai. (Detailed and updated points
table, with respective team positions, is presented above.)
